Before we get to the links:
The health and safety of our patients and team is our highest priority. We are continuing to schedule by appointment only to allow for the thorough cleaning of surfaces between visits. We are limiting the number of people in the office at any given time, and we are following other suggested guidelines for safety and prevention to ensure a clean, stress-free environment for everyone.
If this crisis has showed us anything it’s how important it is to have a high level of durable baseline health and resilience—now more than ever!
Here are the links from our Rom Family Chiropractic Facebook page and all the good stuff we posted over the last week!
We like to post things on a wide variety of health topics, but it can all be broken down into 5 broad categories:
- Being well-adjusted
- Eating well
- Moving well
- Thinking well
- Sleeping well
Here are the links we posted from last week:
“Based on the available data, the supplementation of EPA and DHA in COVID-19 patients appears to have potential beneficial effect in managing the “cytokine storm.” Therefore, the use of EPA and DHA supplementation should be considered as both a supportive therapy and a prevention strategy in SARS-Cov-2 infection.”
Are you getting enough omega 3’s? We’d be happy to talk to you about it on your next visit!!
Here’s How to Think About the Danish Mask Study
Did you see the new Danish mask study:
‘Effectiveness of Adding a Mask Recommendation to Other Public Health Measures to Prevent SARS-CoV-2 Infection in Danish Mask Wearers: A Randomized Controlled Trial’?
(Here’s a link: https://www.acpjournals.org/doi/10.7326/M20-6817)
“In short, the Danish mask study doesn’t answer every question, but it was well done, thoughtful, useful, and what we need more of.”
Public Needs to Prep for Vaccine Side Effects
“This summer, computational biologist Luke Hutchison volunteered for a trial of Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine. But after the second injection, his arm swelled up to the size of a “goose egg,” Hutchison says. He can’t be sure he got the vaccine and not a placebo, but within a few hours, Hutchison, who was healthy and 43, was beset by bone and muscle aches and a 38.9°C fever. “I started shaking. I had cold and hot rushes,” he says. “I was sitting by the phone all night long thinking: ‘Should I call 911?'”
Another Moderna vaccine trial volunteer, 29 year old Ian Haydon developed a fever of more than 103 degrees within 12 hours of his second dose, sought medical attention, and, after being released from an urgent care facility, fainted in his home.
Yet another coronavirus vaccine trial participant, testing Pfizer’s candidate, similarly woke up with chills, shaking so hard he cracked a tooth after taking the second dose…
“Take Tylenol and suck it up…” – Drew Weissman, an immunologist at the University of Pennsylvania whose research contributed to both vaccines.
Wow.
Green Tea Compound Blocks Key SARS-COV-2 Enzyme
Interesting finding…
The Campaign To Wipe Out Polio Was Going Really Well … Until It Wasn’t
“Vaccine-derived polio is caused by remnants of earlier versions of the live virus used in the oral polio vaccine. The vaccine can be shed through feces. In places with poor sanitation, the vaccine can be spread through wastewater. Over time, the virus from the oral vaccine can replicate, regain strength and become just as virulent as the original virus against which it’s supposed to protect.”
“So far this year officials have tallied more than 200 cases of wild polio and nearly 600 cases of the vaccine-derived form of the disease.”
The polio vaccine has been around since the 1940’s-50’s.
Plasma DHA Is Related to Sleep Timing and Duration in a Cohort of Mexican Adolescents
Is there anything omega 3’s CAN’T help with?
This study found that plasma DHA (an essential omega 3) was associated with earlier sleep timing and longer weekend sleep duration in adolescents.
‘No End in Sight': Hunger Surges in America Amid a Spiraling Pandemic
“Hunger is not new in America. Even before the pandemic, 35 million people relied on food banks every year, according to Feeding America. But the pandemic has been catastrophic – despite initial lauded federal interventions such as the stimulus cheques and enhanced unemployment benefit. As many as 50 million people could experience hunger this year, including a quarter of all children.”
“Children and adolescents are probably more likely to experience high rates of depression and most likely anxiety during and after enforced isolation ends.”
Decrease in Hospitalizations for COVID-19 after Mask Mandates in 1083 U.S. Counties
This preprint research study that claimed mask mandates led to decreases in hospitalizations had to be withdrawn due to the conflicting reality of the recent surge in cases.
It’s good to see that, in the current climate, the process of science can still work!!
